2019: Wilderness Works
Serving Atlanta’s chronically homeless, impoverished and neediest children for over 20 years, Wilderness Works provides year-round enrichment, experiential education and character development through school-season city camps, summer nature camps and outdoor living field camps in our National Parks.
Wilderness Works teaches self-worth through self-sufficiency gained during discovery experiences at camps that leads to outcomes such as high school graduation. Emergence of self-confidence and hope for a better life comes through a series of activities and repeated gatherings from City Camp in-town experiences to Core Camp nature excursions on the Chattahoochee and camping out in the mountains and on the coast, to traditional overnight Summer Camps, to Field Camp adventure-based backcountry experiences in wilderness areas.
Funding from the CAS will provide program support and camper scholarships for homeless kids to “get out” in nature at Summer Camps, go on backcountry Field Camps, and escape their devastating circumstances at the safe haven of Wilderness Works City Camp (located on Memorial Drive).
2018: A.G. Rhodes Health & Rehab
A non-profit organization providing short-term and long-term care at three nursing homes in the Atlanta area.
As one of Atlanta's oldest non-profits, A.G. Rhodes has set the standard for serving an aging community since 1904. While utilizing research, technology and innovative approaches to improve care and quality of life, A.G. Rhodes has served more than 1,100 elders each year, many of whom are living with dementia and lack the resources to pay for their medical and living expenses.
As the Atlanta region, and the nation as a whole, experiences a rapid increase in the aging population, A.G. Rhodes continuously looks for ways to provide person-centered care in a homelike environment where elders are connected to and supported by their families and communities.
