Tour of Homes
The Cathedral Antiques Show is pleased to announce that the former residence of The Right Reverend C. Judson Child, seventh Bishop of Atlanta, will be on the Tour of Homes January 24 – 25, 2010. Bishop Child lived in this home in the Peachtree Park neighborhood of Buckhead until his death in 2004. The home is featured in the October issue of Southern Living magazine, and has been lovingly renovated by the present residents, who were next-door neighbors and dear friends of Bishop Child. Bishop Child, prior to his election as suffragan bishop and subsequently diocesan bishop of Atlanta, was for eleven years the much beloved canon pastor of The Cathedral of St. Philip. It was Bishop Child's suggestion, in 1969, to hold an Antiques Show as a fundraiser by St. Rhoda's Guild at the Cathedral. We are excited to have this home on the Tour and we know you will love viewing it!
The Tour of Homes committee chairmen have some magnificent homes signed up for the tour. Stay tuned to the website and our Facebook page for updates. |

Special Recognition at the White House
for a Cool Girls, Inc. Volunteer

Pictured with former President George W. Bush are Joan Thomas (left) and Erica Turner (right). This photograph was made on the occasion of Joan’s receiving The President’s Volunteer Service Award from President Bush in 2006 at the White House. Joan is a co-founder of Cool Girls, Inc., and has volunteered for 16 years with Cool Sisters, a one-on-one mentoring program of Cool Girls, Inc. In 1989, Joan was matched through this program with Erica Turner, an at-risk nine-year-old. As a mentor, Joan focused on academics, personal accountability, tough love, and friendship. Through the years, Joan has become a friend, supporter, and role model who has challenged Erica to believe in herself and her ability to achieve success in life. In 2002 Erica became the first person in her family to graduate from college. She works as a programming analyst at Georgia Pacific Corporation and has followed in her mentor's footsteps as a Cool Girls volunteer. The 2010 Cathedral Antiques Show is proud to have Cool Girls, Inc. as our beneficiary and to be able to contribute to this excellent program for young women. |
